On Monday, Adam attended the debate in the House of Commons on Britain’s involvement with the European Union. He was present for the vote, but abstained from voting because he did not wish to support the Coalition Government against the motion, but felt the motion itself was flawed.
“As a former regional chairman of the ‘No to the Euro’ Campaign and spokesman for the ‘Vote-no’ to the European Union Constitution campaign, I continue to firmly express my view that Britain should not be run by Europe.
I was very much hoping that the Coalition Government would come up with a compromise late in the day, but sadly it was not forthcoming. I therefore withheld my support from the Government by abstaining.
I believe it is vital that we keep control of our nation and put Britain's interests first in all of our international relationships. And I hope that, in the not too distant future, we will be in a position to change the terms of our relationship with Europe.”
Adam believes that the British people should have their say in a referendum if the Government is unable to get powers back from the EU in the near future.
