Terror - Don't Underestimate our resolve

Last week’s foiled plots to blow up planes flying between Britain and America highlights, once again, just how real the threat from terrorists can be and the impact it has on us.

With Heathrow on our doorstep and flight-paths overhead the issue is certainly close to home and we must continue to keep our eyes and ears open in vigilance. Whilst the security services and the police have been criticised in recent months, they are to be commended for their role in uncovering the plot before lives were lost.

Many of us will have an understanding of the causes, the struggles and the suffering around the world which motivate people to commit acts of terror. But irrespective of the motivation, it seems that the current batch of terrorists have no respect for innocent people by making them their 'primary' target for violence.

With the London bombings in July last year the violence had set foot on our shores and, according to the security services, there have been numerous unsuccessful plots since then.

There is little doubt that this is an attack on our way of life, our freedom and the democracy we enjoy; but when millions of people fought and died for democracy during the second world war, our resolve is not to be underestimated.

I believe

People are happier when making their own decisions.

Business is the engine of the economy that generates our jobs, incomes and taxes.

Government should not interfere in our lives beyond protecting and defending us.
