"It strikes me that one of the most
significant developments in British democracy was the secret
ballot, which was introduced in 1872. In the light of the
various points that have been made, does my hon. Friend
agree that the continuing use of the ballot box — in which
people can physically cast their vote securely, free from
coercion, intimidation and observation — is important?"
