LibDem Council Making Weak Progress says DfT
The Department for Transport said recently that the
LibDem controlled Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead
was making weak progress towards implementing its local
transport plan.
Adam Afriyie said, “My praise goes to the council
employees who work hard on transport issues, but residents
have been let down by the LibDems who run the council.”
He added “it is the elderly, disabled and less well-off
who will be hit hardest as they often have no other choice
than to rely on public transport.”
The DfT were concerned that there remain a large number
of local transport development targets which appeared to be
in doubt for the 2004/05 year.
This will now directly affect the area’s level of
transport funding for 2006/07, resulting in a reduction of
12.5%. This equates to a drop in local funds from £1.547
million to £1.354 million.
The RBWM was one of six local authorities described as
making weak progress on their local transport plan.
